WAYS TO PARTICIPATE - Meetings and Events

KDOT's broad-based public engagement process included a series of community interviews, regional workshops and a transportation symposium in Phase 1. Five themes emerged as the organizing framework for the Topical Working Groups in Phase 2. The rollout of the Long Range Transportation Plan in Phase 3 will include Regional Draft Review meetings to give the public an opportunity to review and comment on the draft. Meeting details are provided below:

Regional Draft Review Meetings - Phase 3
Eight meetings will be held throughout the state to give Kansans an opportunity to review the draft Kansas Long Range Transportation Plan. All meetings will present the same information, so attendees should choose a location that is most convenient for them. During each meeting, KDOT staff will review the draft LRTP and answer questions. Breakout sessions will be held to review the plan in more detail. This effort will help ensure that statewide priorities are reflected in the LRTP.

Topical Working Groups - Phase 2
Five Topical Working Groups were formed to discuss transportation around the following issues: freight; rural and micropolitan issues; metropolitan issues; funding and finance; and economic impact. Each group will meet monthly to discuss specific issues. Generally, the Topical Working Group meetings will occur on the same day, in the same location, but there maybe instances where groups will meet individually.

Regional Workshops - Phase 1
Eight regional workshops were held in November and December to discuss the state's transportation needs and desires from a regional perspective.

Transportation Symposium - Phase 1
The day-long event held January 18, 2007 featured presentations about the future of transportation in the nation as well as status of the state's transportation system. Break-out sessions in the afternoon included facilitated discussions on issues and priorities.
